BSL Astronomy Glossary - aldebaran - definition

Definition: Aldebaran is the brightest star in the constellation of Taurus and it is sometimes described as the eye of the bull. In order to locate it in the night sky, find the three bright stars that make up Orion’s belt and in a direct line, to the right, is a group of three bright stars in a V formation, which form part of the constellation of Taurus. The brightest of these three stars is Aldebaran, which has a slightly red colour. The illustration in the video shows why this star is sometimes called the eye of the bull.
