BSL Astronomy Glossary - milky way - definition

Definition: Visible in the night sky, the Milky Way looks like a column of stars rising from the horizon into space. Our solar system and Earth lie inside the Milky Way galaxy, towards its edge. It is one of many different galaxies in the universe and it has about 400 billion stars within it, one of which is our Sun.
