BSL Astronomy Glossary - solar system- definition

Definition: The sun lies at the centre of our solar system and all the rest of the solar system orbits around the sun. Nearest to the sun are the four, inner, rocky planets. Next lie the Asteroid Belt and the four outer planets, also known as the gas giants. Beyond the outer planets, at the far edges of our solar system, lie groups of comets that make up the Kuiper Belt and the Oort Cloud.
