BSL Astronomy Glossary - ursa minor - definition

Definition: A constellation is a group of stars and Ursa Minor is a constellation that resembles a small bear. Polaris, the North Star around which the rest of the heavens rotate, represents the tip of the small bear’s tail. Ursa Minor lies directly below Ursa Major and it can be found in the night sky by tracing a line down through the two stars, which form the left hand side of the Plough.
