BSL Astronomy Glossary - zodiacal lights - definition

Definition: Zodiacal light is seen as a faint glow in the night sky, next to the Milky Way. Visible only from places that are very dark, with little or no light pollution, it is caused by dust in our solar system reflecting light from the sun. The dust in our solar system gets finer as it gets further away from the sun, creating the appearance of a triangle of light, pointing up from the horizon.
