BSL Biology Glossary - genetic mutation - definition

Definition: How DNA mutation may happen is linked with the family inheritance of genes. A gene may be passed down from generation to generation and then at one point, a change occurs naturally and the DNA is altered so there is a gene mutation which is passed down to the next generation. This can happen through old age, or just spontaneously.
