BSL Chemistry Glossary - combustion - Definition

Combustion is a chemical reaction that produces fire. When something burns with oxygen (O₂ ) it reacts and releases energy (heat and light). It looks like fire.

For example, if we take a match to coal, the oxygen in the air burns in a chemical reaction, producing fire - that is combustion.
