Definition: Absorption is the process by which a liquid is absorbed into a solid, or a gas absorbed into a liquid. An example could be a tissue being used to absorb a small puddle of water on a surface. Since the water has been absorbed into the paper, the surface is now empty of water and the tissue paper filled with water. This process can be used to get rid of pollutants from the air or from water. Different methods can be used to absorb pollutants and trap them so liquid or water can flow through and be cleaned of pollutants.
