BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Activated carbon filter definition

Definition: Carbon filters are used to reduce pollutants getting into the air and polluting it. Smoke passes through the filter and the pollutant particles adsorb (stick) to the surface, letting through clean air. Complex molecules that make up pollutant particles are trapped within the carbon filter.
