BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Acute effects definition


Definition: The acute effects of exposure may range from a few minutes to a few days, this can involve death. A person may quickly become ill and then die. The effects may be from ionising radiation, or chemicals or a range of things. The person typically suffers acute symptoms like feeling ill, vomiting, diarrhoea and perhaps quickly declines and dies.
