Definition: Culling involves reducing the population of a species by selective killing.
I will give you an example. Years ago, wolves kept the deer population under control in Scotland. But these wolves were exterminated, and the Red Deer species population became high. This led to overgrazing and destroying the habitat, so they had to be culled.
We have two signs for this term – culling. The first one has the BSL sign for killing, commonly used in Scotland and the second sign has the BSL sign for killing, which is probably common in England.
