BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Permaculture definition

Definition: This is a farming term, a system following the same principles as natural ecosystems. It encourages a self-propagating, self-sufficient and self-sustaining cycle. Some years ago, the original word permaculture came from the term permanent agriculture. It then changed to permaculture, breaking it down, culture is to do with how people live within their environment, how they grow their food, how they support themselves, how they become self-sufficient and how they grow enough food to sustain their community. Essentially, how they create their own ecosystem.
