BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Secondary succession definition

Definition: Ecological succession that takes place in an area where the existing climax community has been disturbed or destroyed - for example, a habitat destroyed by humans cutting down trees with many species disappearing. Eventually, if left alone, nature happens, and ecological succession will occur again. This is secondary succession.
