Definition: A sensory neurone is a type of neurone or nerve cell that aids the body in reaction to external stimuli. For example, if you touch a hot cup, you feel that it is hot and an impulse immediately travels up the sensory neurone in the arm up to the brain stem. The brain stem immediately receives the impulse saying the hand has touched something hot and processes quickly what's happening in the environment outside the body, the external stimuli, so it can react.
