Definition: The spinal cord is a bundle of nerves running from the brain down to the coccyx, it consists of a bundle of tissue, fluid and nerves, contained within the spinal column between the vertebrae. The main nerves branch off the spinal cord and the spinal column, the vertebrae, protect the spinal cord. The spinal cord has a vital role in ensuring that the electrical impulses are sent out throughout the body via the main nerves.
