BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Sulfur dioxide definition

Definition: Sulfur dioxide is toxic when it's in the atmosphere. It is naturally produced when a volcano erupts and produces smoke. Burnt materials also give off sulfur dioxide and so do fossil fuels including petrol and diesel, oil, and petroleum gas. When they combust, they produce sulfur dioxide, which is bad for the air.
