BSL Geography Glossary - Compass - definition

Definition: A compass is a piece of equipment that can help you navigate where to go. A compass always points North, to the magnetic North Pole. When using a map to navigate, a compass can be used to find North and then the intended direction of travel. For example, if you wish to travel towards a specific direction, place your compass on the map and find North, change your compass to the direction you wish to travel and follow the direction. As long as the compass’s North arrow is still pointing to the North, you will be following the right direction.

I have a compass on my phone! It’s not magnetic, it’s an app! It works the same way as a magnetic compass and it helps me when travelling.
