BSL Geography Glossary - Cross-section - definition

Definition: Cross-sections are represented on a map by a line which will often be labelled A at one end and B at the other. If you were to slice through the map along this line, and look back, you would be able to see what is happening underneath the ground. For example, what sorts of rock types there are or whether there is layering. This helps us to understand the geology of an area.
