BSL Geography Glossary - Impermeable - definition

Definition: Some rocks have pores in them, which are empty spaces. If these pores are linked, then fluid can flow through the rock. However, if the pores are not linked, then no liquid, for example water, can flow through the rock. When the pores are not linked, the rock is impermeable.
