Definition: The scale on a map shows the size of the area represented by the map. For example, a scale of 1:10,000 on a map means that 1 mm on the map is the same as 10,000 mm in reality. 10,000 mm is the same as 10 m. Different maps have different scales, such as 1:50,000 or 1:25,000. The scale can help you know how the size of the area represented on the map.
