BSL Geography Glossary - Mapreading - using Scale - Example

Example: The map in the background is an OS map. The scale on the map is 1:25,000. The scale on the bottom of the map shows a distance of 1 km. On the map, the vertical and horizontal lines are spaced 1 km apart. These lines can be used to estimate distance, for example, 2 squares on the map is the same as 2 km, while 3 squares on the map is the same as 3 km.
