BSL Physics Glossary - energy - definition

Definition: We need energy to keep things working. For example, I need food to keep working and signing. Or if someone shouts at me, I sign "Hey, I'm deaf! Don't shout!" I can feel the vibrations coming towards me. That's energy too. An electric light gives out light energy. If you look in the battery of a torch you can see the chemicals inside which make the energy. Put the battery in the torch and you can see light. After a while the energy will run low and the torchlight will fade. The same thing happens to people, if we don't eat then our energy levels go down. So energy keeps things working and moving.
