BSL Physics Glossary - heat sensor - definition

At home you have a hot water tank. It has a thermometer on it and a heat sensor. When the water in the tank gets really hot, the heat sensor turns the electricity off. The heating stops. It doesn't need any more electricity. Cold water is let into the tank and the water temperature drops. The sensor notices the temperature drop and turns the electricity back on to heat the water again.
