BSL Physics Glossary - magnetic field - definition

Definition: The area around a magnet where the attractive force of the magnet can be felt. The closer to the magnet, the stronger the force of the magnetic field. For example, if you bring a magnet near to a nail you can pull the nail along when it is in the magnetic field. The nail doesn't have to touch the magnet. When the magnet gets nearer, the nail will jump up to stick to it.
