BSL Physics Glossary - weightless - definition

Here on Earth we experience gravity, which pulls us down to Earth. That's why we are not weightless here on Earth. The force of gravity is pulling us towards the centre of the Earth. However, if we go in a rocket over 200km away from the earth, the force of gravity will be much less. We will experience weightlessness. It feels like floating. There is not zero gravity here; there is still some effect from gravity, but it is much less.
