BSL Astronomy Glossary - altair - definition

Definition: Altair is the brightest star in the constellation of Aquila, the eagle. It is one of the three bright stars that make up the star pattern, the Summer Triangle. The Summer Triangle is easily located in southern skies during the summer months and each of the three bright stars that make up this star pattern belongs to a different constellation: the star Vega in the constellation of Lyra, the star Deneb in the constellation of Cygnus and, thirdly, Altair in the constellation of Aquila. When the artist’s impressions are added in the video, Altair can be seen lying on the throat of the eagle.
