BSL Astronomy Glossary - orion - definition

Definition: A constellation is a group of stars and Orion is a constellation that looks a little bit like a hunter. In ancient Greece, Orion was a famous hunter and this constellation resembles him with his left arm held in defence, as if carrying a shield. His right arm is raised, as if carrying a sword. Orion is easy to spot in the night sky because of the three bright stars, aligned diagonally, which form the hunter's belt.
It is easier to recognise this constellation as a hunter when imaginary lines are added to join the stars or when an artist’s impression is superimposed, as shown in the video.
