BSL Glossary - Crowded Cottage

Smash, smashed, smashing - example

A new ship had been built. It was huge and when it was due to be launched the queen was invited to come. She duly arrived and was making small talk with the crowds until it was time for the actual launch which meant letting a bottle of champagne go against the hull and watching it smash then the ship would slide into the water. The queen pulled back the bottle and let go but it only knocked against the outside so she tried again and this time - success - the bottle smashed and the boat lurched into the water.
