As a result of UK Lockdown from April 2020 the SSC delivered a series of weekly webinars.

  1. Supporting Learners with VI and their Families During Lockdown: Tuesday, 28th April 2020 - This networking event explored the extraordinary circumstances teachers and pupils find themselves in while schools are closed for an extended period. Teachers of children with Visual Impairments had an opportunity to share experiences and ask questions about delivering education and support remotely.
  2. What's the Complexity? Matt Tietjen: Tuesday, 5th May 2020 - Discussion of the video from Ravenscroft Reviews series by Matt Tietjen about complexity and CVI
  3. As Teachers of the Deaf what difficulties are you facing? Wednesday, 6th May 2020 - Discussion of the challenges of supporting children's education in the home and what is working well.
  4. Supporting Children in the Early Years (0-3). What is the role of the (Q)TVI? Tuesday, 12th May 2020 - Discussion of an early years training video hosted by Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI)
  5. Ask an Audiologist with Joe O'Donnell: Wednesday, 13th May 2020 - Joe provided answers to teacher's current concerns regarding audiological equipment and care.
  6. Teaching braille reading and writing: Tuesday 19th May 2020 - Discussion of a Braille training video hosted by Perkins School for the Blind.
  7. Working remotely with pupils in the early years with MariaVittoria Vallareno: Wednesday, 20th May 2020 - MariaVittoria is an AV therapist who works principally via videoconference methods. She discussed the pitfalls of and tips for using online methods to connect with children and their families.

  10. CVI and Autism: Tuesday 2nd June 2020 - Discussion of the video from Ravenscroft Reviews series by Professor Gordon Dutton about CVI and Autism
  11. Notetaking for Deaf Students and Young People with Rachel O'Neill: Thursday, 4th June 2020 - Rachel provided a video lecture and participants asked Rachel questions relating to notetaking, technology and appropriate support options.
  12. Teaching Social Skills to Children with Visual Impairment: Tuesday 9th June 2020 - Discussion of a video on developing social skills by Sharon Sacks hosted by Perkins School for the Blind
