The Scottish Sensory Centre in partnership with The National Deaf Children Society, is hosting an event for families whose child has recently been identified as being deaf or hard of hearing. We would like to invite you and your family to attend on Saturday, 26th April at the University of Edinburgh.

We realise that for parents, the identification of your child's deafness may be somewhat of an unexpected event, therefore, you may have questions about deafness, audiology, communication and your child's development.

The benefit of the event is having the information you need in the one place. It is also a chance to meet other families. We will have talks/discussions on communication development, the different types of support available, making choices, hearing aids/cochlear implants and assistive technology for school and the home.

Our aim is to offer all families a supportive and confidential environment to share your own experiences. While parents attend the event, a professional creche service is provided onsite (we are waiting confirmation from the creche service). When booking the event please register if you need use of the creche and for how many children.

Restrictions: 15 Families.

Target Audience

Parents and carers of children and babies identified as being permanently deaf or hard of hearing in the last 18 months.

Brian Shannan, Clarivox and SSC, Helena Leggett, Marie Cafferky and Anne Macrae, NDCS (National Deaf Children's Society), Brogan Ferguson, Scottish Cochlear Implant Programme and Kerry Anne Barrie, Deaf role model
