The Complexity of Childhood Deafness: Audiology Update

Presented on Friday, 27th January 2017

The morning session focused on:

  • hearing and listening;
  • what is deafness?
  • the causes of hearing loss.

Joe O’Donnell brought along a range of available technology and discussed why children with a hearing loss need this equipment. There was an opportunity in the afternoon for discussion on any technological issues that participants were facing.

In the afternoon the focus was on:

  • acoustics and speech in the classroom;
  • hearing aids and radio aids.

Concluding with a question and answer session.

Participants said

"The presenter was fantastic. The course was clear yet challenging. I'm going back inspired."

"I can now understand how the acoustic in my room could affect the hearing of children I work with."

Target Audience

Mainstream teachers, teachers of the deaf, speech & language therapists, support staff, early years workers, educational psychologists, parents; those working with pre-school/early primary school-aged children who are cochlear implant users or hearing aid users.
