Mental Health Services for Deaf People

Presented on Thursday, 26th September 2024

Content

This session provided information on the Scottish Mental Health Service for Deaf People which is part of the National Service Division hosted by NHS Lothian. Trudi Collier also discussed her work.

The session consisted of group work where participants examined case studies, loosely based on some deaf people's experiences of difficulties within education and struggles with Deaf identity and how this may have impacted on their mental health.

We asked the participants to look at how things may have been done differently and whether this may have impacted on the person's mental health/self-esteem/Deaf identity as an adult.

The session concluded with a discussion of the findings of the case studies and gave an opportunity to ask questions.
