How will you use what you have learned today?
Use with 6 month-old in partnership with parents and nursery.
It has enhanced my understanding of the use of the materials - particularly the Developing Vision sections. I am hoping I will now be more confident at introducing this to families.
With consultation and presentation - begin to use the Journal with 1 or 2 young children I currently support, inform and discuss with families first. Also feedback to Line Manager and possibly early years staff.
Already have a family to begin with - will follow guide as of today's course.
Don't have any children of the age requiring the Journal but will certainly use it when the need arises.
Help advising and guiding parents.
A lot of the Journal for information when working with VI children.
Will take Journal back to team for discussion and maybe identify a family to try Journal with.
To inform parents and families; to guide progression through stages; as a reference for ideas, especially 'getting stuck'!
Child in our service has just arrived and it is ideal.
Start using with pre-school children/babies where appropriate.
Help with visual assessment and as a focus for parents.
Take aspects of the Journal back to the nursery and share with other members.
In my involvement in a multidisciplinary team working with VI children.
In a future VI job - early years/severe complex needs.
Will share with pre-school visiting home staff and use with pre-school and a complex needs pupil.
Will use it with a variety of children.
This will be useful in my job as a peri teacher working with families.
Within working practice with children and families and with colleagues.
To introduce to families the introduction early on and advise that the teachers would follow up with parent.

What was best about the course/event?
Discussion in groups - working through the activities relating to the stages and cards.
Video section and practical use of the materials.
Group exercises and follow up discussion, also video footage. (2)
I feel informed and have increased confidence to initiate use of the resource.
It was all good - maybe slightly more discussion would have been useful.
Been taken through Journal stage by stage. (2)
Opportunity to ask questions all the way through. Opportunity to access this information.

Very well, clearly presented and am very encouraged to use it.

What, if anything, could have been improved about the course?
It may have been helpful to be seated at tables for ease of access to the Journal materials. (7)
A short day but impressed by presentation and order of coverage.
Not really - maybe some to say how they'd been using it.
Pace - a bit rushed.
If the handout contained all the slides on the PowerPoint that would have been helpful.

Any other comments regarding the course?
Well presented and it was good that the presenter has/is using the materials also.
Follow up or network support.
We had already had a chance to look through the Journal so this was helpful in preparing for its use.
Very informative and adequate time.
Very helpful and practical. Slightly fragmented/'bitty' but hard to know how to avoid this.
An excellent course. I would love copies to use plus to find out about similar Journals for Autism, Down's Syndrome etc.

What other CPD training would you like the SSC to provide?
MDVI - within mainstream setting.
Visual perception issues and assessment.
A follow-up - in a year or so!
Any other courses available would be good to attend to continue personal development.
Updates on technology available. (2)
Working secondary school and how to access the course books in Large Print, CD etc.
Pre-school home visits.
VI social skills.
Perhaps a study day bringing together health workers/social workers/psychologists/education workers.
