Will you do anything differently as a result of today's training?
More informed to advise young people I see in Unit.
Look at JAWS more indepth.
Discuss features of JAWS with my student that I was otherwise unaware of.
Share information about DSA and transition with S5 pupil I support.
More information about applying for DSA, helping students to do so. I will pursue training in use of JAWS, Zoomtext, Typeability.
Try out using JAWS, Zoomtext. Check in with how students are finding JAWS.
I have greater familiarity with Zoomtext and JAWS.
Prepare information for school leavers about what they use in school.
Explore wider screen reader options. Seek out contacts for colleges/universities.
Find out knowledge and understanding of colleagues re the DSA process. Ensure that my school support pupils who apply for DSA.
I will investigate JAWS further. I feel more informed about process of transition from school to university and what needs to be done to help students access what they need.
I'm afraid not.
Encouraged to progress use of JAWS.
Encourage pupils transitioning to college to think about applying for DSA and additional support.
I have gained valuable information regarding support for VI pupils at college and university.
I will ensure that students apply for DSA in plenty of time as it is a lengthy process.
Not really but would certainly recommend use of JAWS or Zoomtext for particular pupils.

What was best about the course/event?
Overview of support available for those in FE.
Hearing about support available in college.
Case studies of FE students. (2)
JAWS overview and networking.
Useful information. Reassuring to know support is available.
All very relevant.
Very knowledgeable presenters.
All interesting but sessions by Sight & Sound were of greatest interest.
Hearing up to date information.
Zoomtext input.
Input regarding DSA and access centre.
I found the info about JAWS very useful.
Learning about software and hardware to support VI students.
The expertise of the speakers and the range of course participants for networking.
JAWS keystroke info.
Information and process involved in applying for DSA. (4)
Input from Edinburgh College. Networking. (2)
Explanation/demonstration of JAWS.
It was good to hear about the process that students follow to apply for DSA.
Good to know that students are well supported in further education with regards to support and technology.
What, if anything, could have been improved about the course?
More time given for case studies. (2)
How to prepare students for transition - self-advocacy, social skills, independence skills.
The course title a bit misleading. I didn't realise so much time for specific technology/software (although I found the JAWS very useful for my own practice), maybe title should have reflected better the content.
Technology demo is quite confusing for a newbie like me!
Chance to try out the technology.
To extend time of this workshop, ie, one day or two. To have a chance to practise using hardware, ie, ONYX.
I felt it was too much about technology. I knew this and was not expecting course to be about this. Thought it would be more about prep/liaison. Biased towards one company.
Advice on funding for NC courses outwith Edinburgh, examples of what they are.
A lot of information to take onboard when listening about Zoomtext and JAWS. Case studies might have helped with this.
This could have been delivered as a webinar. I did not realise that there would have been so much input from Sight & Sound. Would have been good to have students in talking.
Hands on time with IT equipment. When aspects of the demonstrated IT did not work as it should this was just passed over - we need to see why something doesn't work and what we can do to overcome such an issue!
Nothing.
Opportunities to use IT would have been useful.
