Mobility and Independent Living Skills
Presented on Wednesday 13 September 2006
Content
Wheelchair Mobility
Safe procedures for pushing and handling a wheelchair, emphasising understanding the techniques for good, safe handling of a wheelchair whilst encouraging the child or young person to be as involved in the whole procedure as possible.
Independent Living Skills
The development of independence skills does not always come easily for
some visually impaired children and young people. These children need
encouragement and careful guidance from an adult who has a clear idea
of the steps involved to complete tasks and knowledge of strategies,
which will help a child to achieve them as independently as possible.
This short course focussed on independent living skills including
home care, laundry, clothes and food preparation skills.
