Glossary B

Bilateral hearing loss - A hearing loss in both ears

Bone conduction - The transmission of sound to the cochlea by vibrating the skull bones. For example hitting a tuning fork and holding it on the skull behind the ear produces bone conduction.

Bone conductor - A conductor must be in contact with the bone behind the ear. It vibrates and delivers sound directly to the inner ear (cochlea), bypassing the middle ear.
