As a child moves through the different stages of education, the demands placed upon him will increase. Beginning the journey at pre-school opens up a whole new world to many Parents/Carers. By the time the young person is ready to leave school he should have a good knowledge and understanding of his visual impairment, and be able to meet the challenges of life head on. Whether he decides to enter employment or to access post-16 education, he should have the skills necessary to overcome his visual loss and to thrive and compete alongside his sighted counterparts. With a lot of work between Parents/Carers and teachers and with an appropriate level of forward planning this should be perfectly achievable.
