Will you do anything differently as a result of today's training?

Endeavour to assess the children's ability in their first language and acknowledge the importance of their skills in this language. Reconsider the assessments that I use.
More aware of formal and informal assessment and content on how to best support deaf/EAL pupils in PE classes. Confident to query about EAL pupils in school.
Yes, empathise and plan more efficiently. Try to map language histories more clearly.
Will support me in my home visits to families.
Yes.
I will engage further with the students first language and incorporate that within the support strategies I use.
Yes, access materials listed and gain further insight into language acquisition in EAL children.
Increased awareness of EAL/bilingualism issues and how they interact with deafness. Will feedback to colleagues.
I will put into practice the ideas about criterion referencing. I've done a bit of this, but felt I wasn't doing the right thing, as norm-referenced tests seemed the done thing. This has given me the confidence to put my own ideas in place.
I will pay more attention to specific signs that may indicate deafness.

What was best about the course/event?

Interesting and relevant. Practical suggestions. Particularly loved the videos of O's progress!
Learning about the process of EAL pupils learning English. Discussions within groups of different experiences.
Increasing understanding of what's gone on before to ensure planning is more accurate.
All the background information on additional language acquisition and spoken language.
The expertise of the speaker and the pace of the information given allowed for good self reflection time.
Having knowledge reinforced, sharing experiences, networking. Learning more about bilingualism and deafness. Great course.
Sharing case studies/ideas for resources/experiences.
Assessment and deaf pupils section. Surgery session was interesting.
Explanation. Further reading/references. Practical ideas. Thank you very much. I've learned a lot.
A chance to hear about some of the issues which teachers of the deaf find when working with bilingual learners. Thanks for the bibliography.
It was great to discuss different cases and hear tips to be put into practice.

What, if anything, could have been improved about the course?

Moving around/warmer room.
Case studies used by the speaker were interesting, particularly the video footage of the boy's development of language from 3 years - 10 years - so more of these.
Include more practical ideas for the classroom.
Would have welcomed some more group sharing of practice. From my perspective (I realise this may not be true for all) I would like to have heard more about strategies ToDs use with bilingual learners, what has been successful.

Academic English learning and comprehension for deaf children for academic curriculum achievement - no idea if this is a thing.
