Exploring your BSL Heritage

For pupils P4 up to S6, Forth Valley Sensory Centre, 11th November 2024

Lilian Lawson and Clark Denmark discussed their role in Edinburgh BSL project team. John Hay, Deaf History Scotland, delved further back into the history of BSL in the UK. We showed clips from the video tapes with commentary, and activities were distributed for the children and young people to explore the issues raised.


Deaf History Scotland event

Lilian Lawson and Clark Denmark discussed their role in Edinburgh BSL project team. John Hay, Deaf History Scotland, delved further back into the history of BSL in the UK. We showed clips from the video tapes and there was discussion with attendees, all who use BSL on a daily basis. At this event we also launched the website.


Edinburgh Deaf Festival event

Sunday, 10th August 2025

Lilian Lawson will share her experience as part of the original research team, offering insight into a pivotal moment in deaf history. Dr Audrey Cameron will introduce the current Digitisation Project, Words In Hand, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Join us to learn more about the roots of BSL research in Scotland and the people who helped shape its future.
