Before we begin to look at sign language more closely and how it works, I'd like to mention a few points on how to use these tapes. Sometimes we've included a voiceover on the sign language, but we strongly recommend to hearing people that they first watched the examples without sound. It's a good idea to watch the same piece several times before you turn the sound up again. Also if you have slow motion, you may find that you want to use that to give you some extra help and also you can pick out the specific sign or feature that we're talking about. We can only mention a few of the signs and a few of the BSL features in any part of one tape, but you can look at the same piece of tape again and again and as you learn more from the other tapes in the series, you can come back to the first lot of examples and watch them again.
Now it's time to throw you in right at the deep end. Say "What's happening?" I want you to sit back and try and relax and watch this part of BSL but this time there will be no voiceover so you'll have to watch without sound. Don't worry, sit back, relax and see what you can make of it and see what you can understand.
