'Bear Hunt' by Anthony Browne

Now I'm going to tell you a story called 'Bear Hunt'

Once upon a time there was a little bear, a lovely little bear with big ears and a red bow tie. He also had a pencil clutched in his hand. He was walking through the trees and the jungle.

There were two men, hunters, in their car searching for the little bear. They wanted the little Bear, but Bear didn't know.

The two hunters saw Bear, stopped their car, got out, picked up their guns and peered out into the jungle and there was Bear walking happily along.

One hunter peered out, jumped out of the jungle and ran towards Bear with a net. He wanted to catch the Bear and Bear didn't know and was walking along. Suddenly he looked and saw the man running towards him, quickly what did he do? Bear had a pencil and he drew. What was it? String and wood pegs, why? Ahh, let's see.

When bear had finished drawing he stepped back and the hunter ran, tripped and fell to the ground with a crash. That string that he had drawn was real, it was magic, the string and the pegs were magic.

But there was a second Hunter who saw what had happened, jumped out of the jungle with his rope, wire rope. Ahh, because he wanted to lasso the bear.

Bear didn't know and was walking along. Suddenly he looked and saw the man, the hunter ready to throw the lasso. Quickly he picked up his pencil and drew again. What did he draw this time?

It was huge! Let's see what it was. The bear had drawn, what was it? A rhino. So the bear stepped back and the rhino stood there. The hunter tried to stop himself throwing the rope, but it fell on the end of the rhino's horn and he staggered back in fear.

That hunter who'd staggered back from the rhino, but we've forgotten about the other hunter, there are two. He quickly took up his gun, pointed it at the little bear. The bear looked at the gun barrel pointing at his head and quickly he picked up his pencil and drew. What was it? Ahh, the hunter's barrel now pointed towards him and if it fired it would hit him in the face.

The other hunter quickly made a cage, suspended it from a tree and it hung in mid air. Bear was underneath. Bear didn't know and the cage fell and trapped him. Bear was caught. He tried the bars, but with his pencil he quickly had an idea and drew. What was it? It was a saw. The clever bear quickly sawed through the bars, pulled them apart, stepped out and walked away free. But he never saw a big hole. He was walking along, not looking where he was going and he fell straight into it. Do something Bear! Come on, do something! He had an idea and with this pencil he drew again. What was it this time? What was it? Ahh, it was a bird, a bird, and Bear got on the bird's back and the bird flew away with bear on his back. So Bear had managed to escape and had left the two Hunters far, far behind.

There, that's the end of the story. Thank you
