Edinburgh BSL Research Project
When learning BSL students need to adopt classifiers to improve their signing, to move away from English structure. Reminder to keep sound off for first few viewings of the stories.

Well, did you remember to watch it without sound? It's important. We're not really trying to be cruel to you. But it is important because otherwise you will be distracted away from the signing. You'll be moving away from the BSL and into the English translation.
I think if you watch Clark again and again, you will see how much information you can give by using the 'people' classifier. He was able to show size of the parade. I'm not happy about doing the signs myself to show the parade and the way they were moving. He was able to give the information in a brief quick way, whilst I knew it would take me such a long time to do that. It's our own way of signing which often relates to English.
OK, I think that's enough for now. Maybe you'd like to go back again and watch Clive and Clark again? Try it without sound again, if you'd like. But afterwards, switch on the sound and listen with the signing. Enjoy the stories. Bye for now.
This digitisation project was made possible through funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
