Will you do anything differently as a result of today's training?
Try to consider all possibilities when assessing a child's sensory needs - look at the opposite.
Consider all possibilities for children who have sensory processing needs.
Review assessment of couple of children.
Spend more time observing and analysing behaviour to think of possible causes.
Take more time planning my sessions.
Be more aware of sensory stimulation and processing.
Be more detailed in the sensory assessment of the pupils I work with. Be more patient, and perhaps change the pace of each session/activity.
Yes, I will use the problem-solving tool and have increased awareness of possible difficulties.
Consider all approaches - not just the obvious choice.
More examples of activity with kids.
Try to find out a wider background picture of sensory development/needs to help advise others working with individual children.
Be much more aware of sensory issues.
Will think about what someone needs in order to be able to function well. Will think about reasons/needs behind behaviour. Will have more empathy hopefully.
I will use what I have learned today to enhance my support of VI pupils.
Continue to look into this area in greater depth.
Go back to basics with some children, eg, tummy time, crawling, etc.
The problem solving tool, considering all eight senses and possible triggers for behaviours.
Question a child's behaviour to identify the underlying cause. Apply some of the strategies I have learned with the children with sensory processing difficulties that I am working with.
Assessment - look at all layers but focus on what they are seeking.
Definitely use/be aware of more sensory stimuli/activities.
I will consider the sensory systems when assessing a child with VI.

What was best about the course/event?
I thought the section about under and over responsive to sensory stimulation was very interesting and could be applied to many children I work with.
Explanation/clarity on different sensory challenges.
Exploring different sensory challenges, being able to experience what it is like for children. Thinking about being out of rhythm to help ^ arousal. Enjoyable course, pitched for me as an overview/refresher but that's always good to take time out to do.
Practical experiences. Discussion of strategies.
It gave a good overview without having the expectation that the audience already knew.
All of it.
Very clear.
Background information.
Practical activities. (2)
Case studies and strategies.
Overview of discussion, thought provoking about my own practice.
Listening to examples and speaker and explanations. It is difficult to get understanding from reading.
Practical ideas. Giving opportunities to try to understand the difficulties children can face daily. Using threshold ideas for children. A really well paced and interesting course. Thank you.
Interesting about 8 senses. Practical exercises and some of the info.
The presenter - she has a wealth of information and was very interesting to listen to.
Lots of detail to go into in depth with balance of activities.
I feel I understand better some of the behaviours the pupils I teach are displaying in some situations.
Information about how each sense and the thresholds can impact on individuals.
There was a good balance of theory and practice, good balance of listening and participating.
The practical exercises that demonstrated the difficulties with sensory processing.
Describing thresholds - very interesting.
The activities helped me understand lectures.
What, if anything, could have been improved about the course?
More practical examples/discussion around challenging/violent behaviour due to sensory difficulties - how to manage this.
Sharing ideas and experiences more with other people. (Really enjoyed the course.)
Assessment and interpretation of prior to strategies. Key questions you would ask/explore specific to sensory integration.
Probably the content should have been divided into two days since the presenter had to skip many slides.
More time and more examples for complex needs.
More examples of complex needs, non-ambulant pupils. A lot of examples were of ASD or mainstream learners.
Physical activities that can be done in class.
Finish all slides.
The word 'threshold' was used too much and wasn't explained enough for me. If you don't grasp what 'threshold' meant each time it was difficult to understand the rest of the information. Didn't understand some of the slides. 'Parasympathetic system' - what is this?
More time! (2) Very compelling, very knowledgeable and pleasant presenter. Thank you, great day.
Excellent course, well presented. This could be a two day course to cover more of this subject.
It was great!

What other CPD training would you like the SSC to provide?
Training/discussion with colleagues working with complex and severe needs - looking at the curriculum and how our children can access it, meaningfully.
A follow up course on sensory integration.
Approaches to teaching braille in primary and for later learners in secondary.
