Insight - Approaches for Visual Perceptual Difficulties
Introduction
Impaired vision in children due to brain injury is complex. Each child can have a unique set of visual difficulties. This software allows the professional to produce a report, which lists the difficulties and suggests matched strategies for management that other families have found helpful.

Guidelines
  • This question inventory must only be used by professionals who are experienced in working with children with visual impairment due to damage to the brain.
  • Prior detailed assessment of the child's functional vision, with optimal spectacle correction (if required), must be carried out, including visual acuities and visual fields; as the responses to the questions must be interpreted in the light of known visual function.
Instructions for use
  • Ensure that the diagnosis of cerebral visual impairment is correct.
  • The parents /carers are provided in advance with the printed version of the inventory to complete
  • Each positive response to the questions is discussed and clarified
  • Each response of Sometimes is upgraded to Often if strategies to help are needed
  • The completed inventory is entered onto the computer.
  • The report is generated as a first draft by following the on-screen instructions.
  • The report is reviewed on screen with parents and carers and strategies which are clearly inappropriate for the individual child are hidden by clicking "Hide"
  • The final report is generated, and can be printed and/or saved
