I'm going to show you what happens when something is reactive. Here I've got some sodium which is a very reactive metal and I'm going to put it in this bowl of water - watch what happens. What you saw was sodium metal reacting vigorously with the water as it fizzed on the surface.

Next I'm going to do the same with a piece of potassium. Potassium (K) metal is even more reactive than the sodium - did you see the purple flame and the speed at which it moved compared to the sodium (Na) where the movements were smaller and less vigorous.
