BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Aorta definition

Definition: The aorta is the main artery that carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body. The aorta is positioned above the upper left-hand chamber of the heart. It is encased in the muscle that contracts and acts like a pump circulating blood that contains oxygen throughout the body.
