BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Atria/Atrium definition

Definition: If we take a cross section of the heart we can see there are four chambers; the atria are the top two - the left atrium and the right atrium. Oxygenated blood flows into the left atrium which is then pumped by the heart around the body. Blood that doesn't contain O₂ enters the right atrium and is then pumped by the heart to the lungs where it is reoxygenated.
