BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Dolphin pingers definition

Definition: "Dolphin pingers" are deterrent devices, which emit sounds, attached at intervals around the top of a large fishing net. They are for preventing smaller marine animals like dolphins and seals from coming into the net and then becoming trapped in the netting. The pingers emit a sound through the water to try to stop the animals coming into the net. The picture shows one.
