BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Electrostatic precipitators definition

Definition: The sign for ELECTRICITY depends on your region, the different signs are these [demonstrates], in Scotland we will use this sign. An electrostatic precipitator is a piece of equipment that attracts pollutant particles so they stick to the plates inside. The effluent gas is passed through the machine and as it travels through, its particles are electronically charged and stick to the plates by static electricity. This cleans the air so it's free of pollutants as it leaves the machine.
