BSL Environmental Science Glossary - Energy resources definition

Definition: Energy resources include materials and equipment that can produce energy. For example, the sun's rays can be absorbed by solar panels and converted into energy for our use. Gas gives us energy. Energy resources can be divided into 2 categories, renewables and non-renewables. Renewables can keep going and giving energy long term without becoming depleted or running out completely. Solar, wind and wave energy are examples of renewables. Non-renewables are finite resources, they have a limited capacity for giving energy, they may not run out soon, but they will definitely run out one day. Such non-renewables include coal and gas.
